The Department of Energy (DOE), through the European Union-supported Access to Sustainable Energy Programme (EU-ASEP), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will conduct a Mindanao Energy Efficiency and Conservation Virtual Forum for Local Development from 23 to 24 July 2020. The Forum aims to orient Mindanao Local Government Units (LGUs) about the key features of the new Energy Efficiency & Conservation (EE&C) Law.

The ASEP-Clean Energy Living Laboratories (ASEP-CELLs) project, through ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability Southeast Asia Secretariat (ICLEI-SEAS) and Xavier University (XU), serves an important role in the gathering of LGUs to the forum.

To promote LGU participation in Energy Efficiency (EE) initiatives, the EE&C Law requires them to develop and facilitate local energy management programs, directing Government Financial Institutions to offer concessional financing packages and providing incentives through the Local Investment Incentives Plan. Key challenges and needs and local energy plans shall be addressed and discussed during the forum.

The Mindanao Forum will also be conducted online  through Microsoft Teams with clusters of speakers and LGU participants in remote locations mainly in Cagayan de Oro and Davao City.
